Bay Leaf and Sage - JHB

Your friendly deli

Our search for little gems across Joburg took us to the latest extension of our favourite neighbourhood, Athol. The new “Blu Bird” centre adds a modern look to a once run down area. We did lunch at a homely styled deli called Bay Leaf and Sage. What we liked initially appreciated was the friendly service from Mark and co-owner Jean.
We went with our usual group of friends: Nick, Dave, Deanna, Gerrard, Maria and Sasha. The group started off with the antipasti platter: a variety of cold meats, cheeses and olives served stylishly on a wooden chopping block (Go for the almond filled olives, the best!). Dimitri ordered a sarmie filled with Parma ham, gorgonzola and pear on rye bread with a side order of thinly sliced fries and tzatziki- yummy.
The others ordered savoury crepes filled with chicken. Sasha had the wrap filled with lamb called Mary's Little Lamb, which was a little bland and needed a little more tzatziki or humus. To end off we had our traditional espresso (one of the few places you can still get an espresso for R10) and a delectable bar-one cheese cake - with 7 spoons.

Until we eat again,
